The inspiration for this piece came from my family ties to the area along with the incredible light that hits this north coastal town. With the song "Sound and Vision" by David Bowie on repeat in my studio, the song's ebb and flow, much like the sea, kept playing in my mind. Bowie's vocals, which don’t appear until over a minute into the song, add a layer of introspection that resonates with the rhythm of the ocean waves.

FACT: This view from Ballycastle Beach to Rathlin Island (visible in the distance) is historically significant. It was here, in 1898, that the Marconi experiments took place. Before the advent of radio waves, communication between Rathlin Island and the mainland was done using semaphores such as flags. Lloyds of London contracted Marconi to establish a wireless link between the island and Northern Ireland. Thus, "SOUND AND VISION" is a fitting title for this artwork, blending historical significance with artistic inspiration.
